ARTEMI Secures Continued Funding from the Swedish Research Council

The Swedish Research Council has announced its decision on the research infrastructures to receive funding for the coming years. We are delighted to share that ARTEMI, the Swedish research infrastructure for advanced electron microscopy, has been granted continued support for 2027–2028. After this period, ARTEMI will be invited to apply for renewed funding.

This decision is excellent news for ARTEMI and its community. The funding will allow us to consolidate our activities, support a growing user base, and further strengthen Swedish capabilities in advanced microscopy. A key focus of this funding round is the support of staff scientists, who play a crucial role in helping new users access and benefit from the infrastructure. This emphasis aligns perfectly with ARTEMI’s mission to make cutting-edge microscopy available to a broad range of researchers across disciplines.

The timing of the grant is particularly welcome. Major new installations are underway at Linköping University (LiU), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm University (SU), and Lund University (LU)—representing a national investment exceeding 150 million SEK.

“I hope that we can use this funding to make all this infrastructure as attainable as possible and help increase the competitiveness of Swedish research,” says Per Persson, Director of ARTEMI

With this continued support, ARTEMI is well positioned to strengthen Sweden’s international standing in advanced electron microscopy and to enable new scientific discoveries across materials science, nanotechnology, and life sciences.
